SPIRIT WEEK

We were so glad to see the sun today!
2 things...
1. We set our next reward to be a Spirit Week! We have yet to determine each day's theme. We'll keep you posted. Write us a note if you have an idea. We're thinking crazy hair, beach day...

2. We had the girls in for "lunch bunch" with Amy. We talked friendship, how you can say you don't want to play in a nice way. Mostly the girls wanted to share about their lives. That's great too.

Smoothie Share

Today we celebrated our growth as writers. We enjoyed strawberry-banana smoothies, listened to EVERYONE's chosen story, and told them what we liked about them.

Here are the smoothie ingredients...
orange juice, vanilla yogurt, a fresh banana, and frozen strawberries. Yum, Yum, Yum. Everyone like them as far as I know. :)

Have a nice weekend.

How To...

Today we made cards! It was an introduction to our "How To" writing.

Our plan is to have an "Author's Tea" on Friday. Students will have the opportunity to share on of their stories aloud with the class while enjoying SOME sort of refreshment. Then we will clear out our folders for the next -how to- unit.

I have really enjoyed celebrating your child's growth with you at conference time. Everyone is making such great gains. What a truly lovely group of kids I get to be with every day! Lucky.

AND...
I was on recess duty today, and realized there is not much snow on the ground. Most of the class is choosing not to wear snowpants and boots at this point. It's okay with me, as long as they stay off those plow piles.

AND...
DO log onto the district website for more information from the Comprehensive Strategic Planning Committee, or to ask them questions you would like them to consider while they research the reconfiguration of elementary schools into k-2 and 3-5 schools.

It's Spring!

Happy Friday and First Day of Spring!

What a busy week. We've been getting ready for sharing with you at conferences. We have thought about our writing and reading and math. We have thought about what we do well and what we need to practice in each area.

We were able to teach Ms. Kennedy's class about balancing the crayfish, arch and triangle. We balanced pencils on their POINT! Amazing. Ask your child what tools they needed to do this trick.

Pennies, they have been weighed. Ms. Kennedy's class came in first place with something like 77 pounds. Mrs. Dunn was second.

AND, today we got to share our Signs of Spring Reader's Theatre with each of the Kindergarten classes (and had our own little donut party).

Coin Quest

We are currently in third place!
Mrs. Dunn's Class has 28 pounds of coin.
Ms. Kennedy's Class has 26 pounds of coin.
We have 21 pounds of coin.

Did we tell you the first and second place classes get a pizza and doughnut party, respectively?
Scour the car, your pockets, your gramma's house, and the laundry room for loose change!

Pajama Day

What a great day! Pajamas all around. Even me. How many of you went to work in your pajamas yesterday? I really think I have the best job ever. (not just 'cuz of jammies) I brought along a couple sheets to make forts to read and play under. This was a hit!

In the afternoon we had the privilege of listening to chorus and band students perform. A local artist, "Josie," has worked with the special chorus to write a song about WCS. What a fabulous song. It makes me very proud to be part of this community. Every student will be learning the song in music class.

Thank you for showing your support at the school board meeting last night. From what I understand, it sounds like they will move forward investigating the possibilities of creating K-2 and 3-5 schools within our district. Sounds like more meetings to follow. The one for Topsham on March 24th at Woodside School.

Rainbows and Ramps

We continued to experiment with balancing an arch and triangle. We predicted if different configurations would balance or not. Then we tested them. Tomorrow we'll get a pencil to balance on it's sharp point. Yup, now I'm teaching magic.

We did go on a not-so stealth mission today to deliver a little bit of sunshine. He found us out. Ask your child. :)

YES, tomorrow is Pajama Day! Phew, we made it. Pajamas are recommended, stuffies and flashlights welcome. (Stuffed animals need to FIT in a backpack) I will tell you, one time a student actually brought a stuffed fox (her dad is a taxadermist).

Reminder: The School Board Meeting is Thursday night at 6:30 (Mt. Ararat High School, room 201)

Crayfish

Everyone got to balance a crayfish. We did it with and without clothespins. We learned that the weights need to be below the balance point in order for the crayfish to balance on his nose.

We are excited for the coin quest WEIGH IN this afternoon.

There's a Nink in our Sink!

Today we celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday.
We read There's a Wocket in My Pocket and created our own creatures to look over us.
Here are a few examples of our work!
That's a Zeiling on the Ceiling! (by WK)
Reminder...The COIN QUEST has begun!!!
